The bad news just does not seem to stop for the Flyers' defense.

Now it has been revealed by GM Paul Holmgren that defenseman Andreas Lilja had surgery on his left hip in July.

CSNPhilly.com's Tim Panaccio reports that Lilja said he has a degenerative hip condition that he dealt with all of last season. Surgery was reccomended to treat the condition.

Speaking to a swedish newspaper, Lilja said he did not expect to be ready until December.

However, Holmgren believes that Lilja will be able to come back by late October or early November.

Lilja will now join Andrej Meszaros and Chris Pronger on the list of injured Flyers blue liners, and he will join a bigger list of defenseman that the Flyers will not have when the season begins (Meszaros, Pronger, Carle, and the fialed oppurtuniy in Shea Weber).

The Flyers' injured defenseman could get some extra recovery time with a possible lockout looming due to CBA Negotiations. But a lockout is not something that the NHL and NHLPA will want to happen.
