McGinn, Flyers KO Jets

February 13, 2013

Box Score (from Flyers.NHL.com)

One assist is what kept Tye McGinn from completing the Howe Hat-trick on Tuesday night.

The first year Flyer dropped the gloves and scored the deciding goal in a 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets in the second of a six-game road trip.

McGinn went toe-to-toe with Winnipeg's Mark Stuart 5:17 into the second period, and took him down with a few right hooks.

Then in the third, Jakub Voracek sent a pass in front of the net that deflected off McGinn (3, 4:17) into the net.

Ilya Bryzgalov bounced back from a rough night in Toronto.

Despite allowing two goals to Winnipeg's Andrew Ladd in the first period (5, 14:12) and with seconds left in the third (6, 19:13), Bryzgalov would not hand the Jets anything. He made 24 saves on the night.

Brayden Schenn (3, 8:07) tipped-in a pass from Voracek for the first goal of the game, and Kimmo Timonen (2, 17:08) scored a power play goal on slap shot from the point. Both of those goals were scored in the opening period.

Harry Zolnierczyk, who made his season debut, nearly had a goal on a breakaway in the first period. Zolniercyzk shot off the backhand, but Winnipeg goaltender Al Montoya made the save.

The Flyers will have Wednesday and Thursday off after back-to-back road games in Canada. On Friday night they will face the Devils in New Jersey.

Extras: Montoya was taken out of the game after the second period. He suffered a lower-body injury. The Jets' usual starter Ondrej Pavelec replaced him in the third. Montoya allowed two goals and made 10 saves, while Pavelec allowed one and also made 10 saves.
