Jody Shelley was placed on injured reserve Tuesday night and now there is a reason why.
CSNPhilly.com's Tim Panaccio reports that Shelley will have hip surgery in about a week, citing Flyers' general manger Paul Holmgren.
There were no other details other than that Shelley's hip has been bothering him and has not been getting any better.
Shelley has only played in one game this season, which was a 2-1 home win against the New York Rangers on January 24. He had 7:58 of ice time.
