Sochi bound?: Select Flyers invited to Olympic prelim rosters

The NHL made a deal at the end of last week to allow their players to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics and teams have been putting together their preliminary rosters in preparation of orientation camps.

Here are the Flyers that will be getting a shot at representing their countries this winter...


Team Canada (Camp from Aug. 25-28): Claude Giroux.

Team Finland: Kimmo Timonen.

Team Sweden (Camp from Aug. 12-14): Nicklas Grossmann and Erik Gustafsson.

Team Switzerland: Mark Streit

Team USA (Camp from Aug. 26-27): Peter Laviolette will serve as an assistant coach to head coach Dan Bylsma.

There are also a few former Flyers that have been chosen to preliminary rosters. Here they are...

Team Canada: Jeff CarterMike Richards and Patrick Sharp. Former Flyers head coach Ken Hitchcock is on Canada's coaching staff as an assistant coach to Mike Babcock.

Team Russia (Camp from Aug. 23-24): Sergei Bobrovsky.

Team USA: James Van Riemsdyk.

Team Finland: Joni Pitkanen and Ville Leino.

Not all countries have submitted their rosters or camp dates yet. This article will be updated as soon as the rosters become available.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. The NHL will stop the regular season from Feb. 9-25, in order to let their players participate.
