Free agency opened at noon and the Flyers went and found a goaltender almost immediately.
They signed Ray Emery to a one-year, $1.65 million contract, giving him another shot in Philadelphia.
Emery had a previous stint with the Flyers in the 2009-10 season, but only played in 29 games before being diagnosed with avascular necrosis in his right hip. After that, it looked like Emery would never play again.
Fast forward three years and Emery is coming off an impressive season with the Chicago Blackhawks, even though he served as backup to Corey Crawford.
Emery had a 17-1-0 record in 19 starts this season, with a 1.94 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. He also had three shutouts in 2013.
The Flyers also have Steve Mason, who they acquired at this year's trade deadline, under contract for the 2013-14 season.
Between Mason and Emery, the Flyers are spending $3.15 million of cap money in goal for the upcoming season. Had they kept Ilya Bryzgalov, the Flyers would have been paying $5.67 million, not including Mason's cap hit.
Flyers add one more goalie
The Flyers also signed goaltender Yann Danis to a one-year, two-way contract, according to the Flyers' inside reporter Anthony SanFilippo.
Danis, 32, has spent a majority of the past two seasons playing in the AHL with the Edmonton Oilers affiliated Oklahoma City Barons. He will more than likely stay in the AHL, playing for the Adirondack Phantoms.
