Here is how the 48-game schedule is going to work

January 8, 2013

Today TSN's Bob McKenzie reported via Twitter how the regular season schedule will work.

The schedule will be 48 games for each team with the expectation that training camps will begin this Sunday.

The shortened season will begin on January 19th and all games will be within conferences. Each team will play four games against two rivals within the division each and then another fives game each against the other two division rivals to total 18 divisional games.

The other 30 games in the schedule will be played against opponents within a team's respective conference.

Here are McKenzie's tweets outlining the schedule..

"As others reported, looks like season is maximum 48 games starting Jan 19 with camps opening no later than Sunday Jan. 13, if all goes well."

"In a 48-game schedule, there'll be no play between conferences. East plays East and West plays West. But here's the schedule matrix for 48:"

Although it is not official yet, the Flyers may be opening up the season with a divisional game against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins at home on opening day.

However, this cannot be confirmed until the new CBA has been ratified and the official schedule is released.

The NHL's Board of Governors are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to ratify the agreement.
