VIDEO: Hartnell talks about injury. Also, a mystery goalie

January 30, 2013

Scott Hartnell spoke to the media about his injury following the Flyers' Wednesday practice.

Hartnell, out 4-6 weeks with a broken foot, talked about his road to recovery and what he has been doing to pass the time . He also shared his thoughts about the Flyers' struggling special teams, which has been a popular point of conversation lately.

In other news:

Ilya Bryzgalov got the day off and did not practice on Wednesday. Instead, an unknown goaltender took the ice with backup Michael Leighton.

The mystery goaltender's name is Joe Rivera according to CSNPhilly.com's Sarah Baicker. A look at Rivera's Twitter account shows that he is a real-estate agent from New Jersey.

It is hard to argue that Bryzgalov's day off wasn't well deserved. His 26 saves kept the Flyers in the game on Tuesday night, proving to be one of the few bright spots in the frustrating 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers.

January 24, 2012

Flyers fall short in season opener, lose 3-1

January 19, 2013

The crowd was fired up, "Crosby sucks!" chants were rampant throughout the arena prior to puck drop. The players were introduced for the first time in months, the Lauren Hart finally had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem again.

Fans at the game were lucky enough to witness it all.

However, if you were watching on TV at home, then tough luck.

NBC chose to nationally televise the Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup ceremony, which would see the team's first championship banner go up into the rafters. That was understandable.

What wasn't was NBC opting to show the first few minutes of the Kings' game against the Chicago Blackhawks, rather than allowing Flyers fans on the east coast to see their own team's pre-game ceremony.

NBC finally switched over to the game at 3:37, but it was already time for puck drop by then.

But hey, who can complain? Fans can finally watch Flyers hockey again.

A look at the Flyers' Schedule

January 12, 2013

The lockout is over, and the schedules have been released. Here is a look at the Flyers' 48-game stretch.

Memorandum of Understanding signed

January 12, 2013

The NHLPA ratified the CBA, leaving the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding as the only obstacle left from keeping the NHL Lockout from officialy ending.

Like everything else that has happened throughout the process, it took a lot longer than it should have to get the memo signed. But the only thing that fans, media, players and owners alike want to hear is that the memo has been signed and the season can now officially begin.

No more negotiations, no more mediation. Just hockey.

What the Flyers are saying about the Lockout ending

January 6 , 2013

So now that the lockout is over, time to hear what the Flyers think about the news.

Ladies and Gentleman, the NHL is back!

January 6, 2013

Time was running out. Half the season had already been cancelled and if nothing had been done by Thursday, there would be no season.

In the last few months of 2012, negotiations for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the NHL and the NHL Players Association, things did not look like they were going to well.

Both sides were impatient and unwilling to compromise, resulting in multiple walk outs on negotiations by either the NHL or the NHLPA. Any progress, if any was made, came to a screeching halt with sudden breaks in negotiations.

But the start of a new year, brought change. With the drop-dead date of Thursday, January 10 approaching, negotiations picked up again. Both the NHL and PA were meeting more frequently and for longer than before.

Then mediator Scot Beckenbaugh was brought in to help move negotiations along, and that is exactly what he did.

Beckenbaugh kept talks between both sides going and convinced the both of them that it was worht it to keep trying to make progress.

Then, on Sunday morning, an agreement was announced. League Comissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr, who were opposing forces for many months, were standing next to each other to announce to the media that there will in fact be a season.
