The Flyers found themselves in overtime for the second straight game. This time the shootout was avoided.

Daniel Briere netted the game winner off a shot that ricocheted off the post then off the back of Carolina goaltender Cam Ward and past the red line.

The goal, Briere's second of the season, came 1:47 into the overtime period and gave the Flyers a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes.

The win wraps up a four game home-stand at the Wells Fargo Center, in which the Flyers went 3-0-1, earning seven out of the possible eight points in the standings.

Carolina struck first in the game. Jiri Tlusty (1, 0:17) scored off of a rebound created by a Joe Corvo slapshot in the first period.

Brayden Schenn (2, 13:52) answered by redirecting a point shot by Kimmo Timonen to tie it 1-1.

Matt Read (5, 1:33)gave the Flyers their first lead of the game with a goal to start off the second period.

After a Carolina goal by Jeff Skinner (6, 11:17), Schenn connected a one-timer pass to Jakub Voracek (3, 11:32), who put it in to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead.

Joe Corvo (1, 7:58) scored the lone goal in the third to tie the game up at three for Carolina.

With the period coming to a close, the Flyers almost had a chance to avoid overtime.

Voracek took the puck into the offensive zone along the boards, then sent a pass to Claude Giroux. With a defender on him, Giroux sent a behind the back pass to Matt Read, who had a chance to shoot.

Read got one shot off that was saved by Ward, then put too another shot that went in. However, time had already expired y the time Read got the second shot off.

Now that the home-stand is over, the Flyers will head to Toronto for a Monday night match-up against the Maple Leafs. It will be former Leaf Luke Schenn's first appearance in Toronto since being traded to Philadelphia for James Van Riemsdyk.

It will also be the first time JVR faces the Flyers as a Leaf.

Extras: Wayne Simmonds returned to the lineup after missing three games with a concussion. In the first period Tye McGinn was sent face first into the boards by Carolina's Tim Wallace. Wallace received a five minute major and game misconduct for boarding at 6:34 into the period. McGinn was shaken up by the hit, but said he felt fine after the game according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi.
