The history of Philly Cover Athletes

September 10, 2012

Many a hockey fan will be picking up a copy of EA Sports' NHL 13 tomorrow, when the game finally hits store shelves.

The team at EA has made big changes to this year's edition of the annual hockey game, which gives fans plenty to be excited about.

Flyers fans, however, have one extra reason to buy the game, because two-time All-Star Claude Giroux is the cover athlete.

Giroux is only the most recent of Philadelphia athletes to grace the cover of a sports game though. In fact, he joins a pretty lengthy list of players who were chosen to be cover athletes during their time in Philadelphia. Nine to be exact.

So, in honor of the release of NHL 13, I've decided to take a look back at all the games that had a Flyer, a Phillie, a Sixer or an Eagle on the front of the box.

Oh no

September 5, 2012

A lockout is becoming more probable by the day.

Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com reports that NHL Comissioner Gary Bettman will ask the league's Board of Governers to vote on the support of a player lockout, should a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL players and owners not be reached by September 15.

On top of that, Panaccio reveals that two player agents he spoke to told him that "both sides are preparing – and have been – for a lockout."

Now, more than ever, both the NHL Players' Association and the League owners have to make substantial progress if they want to avoid a delay or cancellation of the 2012-13 season. They have a little over a week to do so, and reach a new agreement.

Pronger guarantees delay to season

 September 5, 2012

Chris Pronger has not spoken to the public in months since his season ended from a concussion.

However, Pronger offered his opinion on a now very possible lockout while he was attending a St. Louis Police Foundation luncheon.

Together we can No Lockout

It has been a while since I have posted anything. Again, I am deeply sorry for that. The good news though, is that I plan to write on the blogs again starting some time this week.
Anyway, I realize that I haven't written about the CBA negotiations very much. In short; things aren't looking good. A lockout is a very real possibility right now, because the players and the owners have made very little progress in reaching an agreement. Both sides have little common ground which is not good, since the expiration date for the current CBA (September 15) is rapidly approaching.
I heard about this YouTube video via NBC Sports and a tweet by Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche.
This video centers around the effects that a potential lockout can have on the players and the fans. The video also raises the point that so many memorable moments could be missed, and history never to have been made.
I thought it was incredible and very inspiring. I tip my hat to the creator
I strongly encourage anyone reading this right now to watch the video below.
